Why does stainless steel flange microstrip magnetism?

The main reasons for the magnetic properties of stainless steel flanges are as follows:

First, the effect of chemical composition

Iron content:

Stainless steel flanges contain iron, and iron itself is magnetic. When the content of iron in stainless steel is high, the stainless steel flange may show the characteristics of microstrip magnetism.

Ferrite formation:

Stainless steel flange in the manufacturing process, if the chemical composition equivalent composition control is not in place, such as Ni content control between 8.0-8.2%, when Cr/Ni reaches a certain value, there will be a certain amount of ferrite in the steel structure. Ferrite is magnetic, so it will cause stainless steel flanges to be microstrip magnetic.

Second, the impact of manufacturing process

Cold work hardening:

Deformation martensite may occur during cold working of stainless steel flanges. Deformation martensite not only increases the strength of the stainless steel flange, but also has magnetic properties. The formation of this deformable martensite is an important reason for the microstrip magnetism of stainless steel flanges.

Processing deformation and welding:

The processing deformation, cold working, welding and other processes of stainless steel flanges in the manufacturing process may affect the lattice structure, resulting in changes in the shape and size of the grains. These changes will lead to the ordering of the magnetic moment of the iron element near the grain boundary, which makes the stainless steel flange appear microstrip magnetism.

Third, the influence of external magnetic field

If there is a magnetic field in the environment in which the stainless steel flange is manufactured, then the stainless steel flange may appear microstrip magnetism. This is because the external magnetic field will magnetize the iron element in stainless steel, making it show magnetism.

Fourth, other factors

In addition to the above points, the magnetic properties of stainless steel flanges may also be affected by many factors such as raw material quality and production process control. For example, the use of substandard raw materials or manufacturing process problems can cause stainless steel flanges to appear microstrip magnetic.

It should be noted that although the stainless steel flange has microstrip magnetism, its overall non-magnetism is still better and will not have much impact on general use. However, in some cases where there are strict requirements for magnetism, special treatment measures may be required to reduce or eliminate the magnetic properties of stainless steel flanges.
