How to install door hinges?
The installation of door hinges is a relatively simple process that requires certain skills and precautions. The following are general door hinge installation steps and precautions:
Preparation before installation
Tool preparation: Prepare special installation tools, such as measuring tape/level ruler, carpenter pencil for marking and positioning, carpenter hole opener/pistol drill for opening holes, screwdriver for fixing, etc.
Determine the number and position of hinges: Determine the number of hinges required according to the height, weight and material of the door panel. Generally speaking, a door panel with a height of about 1.5 meters and a heavier weight needs to be installed with 3 hinges, while an ordinary door panel only needs to be installed with 2. At the same time, determine the installation position of the hinge, avoid installing it at the corner mortise and tenon joints of the door and window fan body, and it is best to install it at 1/10 of the length of the door and window fan body, and avoid three equal distributions.
Installation steps
Line positioning: Use a carpenter pencil or installation measuring board to draw lines on the door panel to determine the installation position of the hinge. The drilling margin is generally 5 mm, and the gap size is generally around 35 mm.
Drilling: Use a pistol drill or woodworking hole opener to drill the hinge installation hole on the door panel. The drilling depth is generally 12 mm.
Install the hinge cup: Insert the hinge into the hinge cup hole on the door panel and fix the hinge cup with self-tapping screws. Note that there may be a problem of bulging when installing the hinge cup. You can use a tool to press the hinge cup into the door panel, and then tighten the screws with a screwdriver to fix it.
Install the hinge seat: After inserting the hinge into the door panel cup hole, open it, insert and align the side panel, and fix the hinge base with self-tapping screws. When fixing, you can choose European special screws to ensure that the hinge seat is firmly fixed to the door panel.
Adjustment and testing: After installation, you need to adjust the hinge to ensure that the door panel can be opened and closed flexibly. General hinges can be adjusted in six directions, aligned up and down, and the two doors are moderate left and right. After adjustment, test the opening and closing effect of the door panel to ensure that the door panel opens and closes smoothly and without noise, and the gap after closing the door is generally about 2 mm.
Precautions
Prevent falling sashes: Falling sashes refer to poor installation of doors and windows, which leads to the gradual increase of the upper gap and the gradual decrease of the lower gap. In severe cases, they will fall off. To avoid this situation, hinges of appropriate specifications should be selected and fixed with matching screws.
Grasp the gap distance: The gap between the hinge and the door panel should be well grasped. The gap of the door panel is normally 3-5MM. Expansion joints should be left to ensure that the door panel can be opened and closed freely and has a beautiful appearance.
Ensure that the accessories match: whether the height, width and thickness of the hinge groove match the hinge, and whether the screws and fasteners connected to the hinge are matched. The connection method of the hinge should match the material of the frame and sash.
The sash axis should be on the same plumb line: During installation, the axis of the hinge on the same sash should be on the same plumb line to prevent the door and window sash from bouncing.
Follow the above steps and precautions to successfully install the door hinge and ensure that it is stable and durable. If you encounter any problems or need further help during the installation process, please consult professionals or experts in related fields.
