How to install the flange correctly?

Proper installation of flanges is a key step in ensuring the tightness and safety of the piping system. Here are some detailed instructions on how to properly install flanges:

First, the preparation stage

Check the flange:

Ensure that the surface of the flange is free from damage, rust or other defects.

Check that bolt holes are clean and bolts can pass freely.

Prepare tools and materials:

Prepare necessary tools and materials, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, screws, gaskets, and lubricants.

Clean flanges and pipes:

Clean the contact surface between pipe and flange to ensure that there are no foreign objects or impurities.

Use a suitable solvent or cleaner to remove oil and rust.

Second, installation steps

For ziflange:

Place the flange correctly in the intended position of the pipe or equipment.

Adjust the flanges to ensure that the two flanges are parallel and concentric. Dowel pins or other tools can be used to help hold the flange in place.

Insert gasket:

Select a gasket material suitable for the medium and operating temperature.

Place the gasket between the flanges, making sure it is in the right position to avoid deflection.

Bolted connection:

Thread the bolt through the bolt hole of the flange.

Use a wrench to tighten the bolts initially, taking care to tighten them gradually in a diagonal sequence to maintain balance.

Check and calibration:

Double check the alignment of the flanges to make sure there is no offset.

Check and correct the verticality and levelness of the flange using a 90° Angle ruler or other tool.

Final fastening:

Use a wrench to tighten the bolts according to the specified torque value.

The tightening sequence remains diagonal to ensure even force.

Third, check and test after installation

Check the tightness:

After installation, perform pressure test or other sealing test to ensure no leakage.

Apply soapy water or other suitable detection agent to the flange joint and observe for bubbles.

Check bolts and nuts:

Ensure that all bolts and nuts are properly installed and secured.

Check bolts and nuts for damage or loosening.

Record installation information:

Record flange installation details, including gasket materials used, bolt specifications, and tightening torques.

This helps with future maintenance and overhaul.

Fourth, precautions

Avoid over-tightening:

Excessive tightening may damage the flange or gasket, resulting in leakage.

Tighten with the right torque and tools.

Select the right gasket:

According to the nature of the medium, temperature and pressure and other conditions to choose the appropriate gasket material.

Make sure the size and shape of the gasket matches the flange.

Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines:

Follow flange and pipe manufacturer’s installation guidelines and standards.

For flange connections with special requirements, the manufacturer or professional engineer should be consulted.

Safety protection:

In the process of operation, to observe the relevant safety procedures, the use of safety protective equipment.

Avoid open flames or high temperatures at flange joints.

To sum up, proper installation of flanges requires careful preparation, accurate alignment, proper selection of gaskets, proper connection of bolts, and necessary inspections and tests. By following these steps and precautions, you can ensure the tightness and safety of flange connections.
